i was thinking dual 2.5 inch into a single 3 inch pipe with 3 inch muffler and single exit...how does that sound??? what are all of your recommendations

probably going to be a lot of work to route it. If you can get the y pipe to work right it should be a good system. :t:

I have a 3" system on my CJ from factory manifolds. Pics can be found here:

http://www.bulltear.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5472

It's 2 1/4" pipe to the Y, then 3" out the back. The Y curves forward under the oil pan, so everything is tucked up above the frame. I crushed the factory Y pipe that went under the trans more than once.

I'm sure something similar could be built off the shorties. I think my entire setup ran a little over $600 including a 3" high flow cat and 3" Magnaflow muffler.

that doesnt look like a bad idea...maybe if i wrap the exhaust around the pan?? keep the heat down a little?? what do you think

The pics make it look closer than it is. I don't notice any pressure drop from heat. Mine still pushes 20-25 PSI at hot idle, 55-60 hot down the street.

Without a lift the upward clearance for the front shaft may be an issue. I run an extended bump stop, and a bigger diameter front shaft (long slip with ~12" of travel).

#20 = we aren't going to make #14 by Valentines day (tomorrow)

I'm disappointed. We were doing good for a couple days

Here's the way ours came out...

2 1/2" into muffler, 3" out. Sounds BAD, meaning GOOD!

We used stock exhaust manifolds, and crossed over above the transfer case. We couldn't run true duals because of the anti-wrap bar being in the way on the passenger side. We have a 3" body lift, so that helped with getting over the t-case. Still need to add some insulation above the pipe as the floor gets pretty hot there by the cross over.

The muffler is a single inlet/dual outlet glass pack flipped around backwards. It is a little too long and kept us from humping the pipe up over the rear axle to give it clearance like we wanted to. Next time will look for a shorter muffler.

Man!! That wrap over puts the right bank REALLLYYYYY close to the floorboard  I haven't done mine yet, but was thinking the wrap over the drive shaft after the T-case. Still won't leave much room for the cat and muffler, but that looks like a chicken cooker that far forward?!?!? :-|
And I have a 2 to 1 CAT for state inspection where your cherry bomb is

This doesnt sound like a bad idea...over the rear drive shaft...but i dont know about having any room for a muffler by the time you do the cross over you are damn near all the way back....how did they do it from the factory when they put factory 304's in the cj's???

Factory Y-pipe on a V-8 CJ crossed under the front driveshaft and tranny just forward of the skid plate. The cat was above the skid. The 79 back skid was a little further back and hung lower than the 80-up. Crushed mine several times before going to the setup I have now.

See how low it hung?

Looks like you saved your exhaust pipe in that pic Bob :?

Just not sure how I can route everything under there and stay street legal - and semi-quiet. Well at least not as loud as the Harley

If you are running a body lift, you can get between the frame and tub to the out side fram area (like with fenderwells..)

Just thinkin out loud ..
