I have a set of EIGHT 1968-69 5.79” forged rods that have been completely redone for a blower motor. Polished, weight-matched/balanced, shot-peened and reamed for floating pins. Include ARP high-strength bolts.

Match these up with the set of TEN Forged Venolia pistonsfor a 0.030” overbore 304 V8 (now 3.78”). These pistons are dished for a turbo or supercharger application and yield around 8:1 with stock 304 59-cc heads. Pistons are weight-matched/balanced and come with full floating pins and locks … SET UP FOR THE ABOVE 390 RODS with ~1” wrist pin (stock 304 pin is 0.93”). Pistons also have valve reliefs for 1.94” intake and 1.50” exhaust valves (Small Block Chevy valve conversion on 304 heads).

You can mate these pistons and rods up to a 390 crank (3.574” stroke) to make a 321-cid stroker. With 390 crank, they are 0.051” in the hole (from stock 304 deck height of 9.208”).

You can run them in a 290 block with a 390 crank, and they would be roughly 0.018” below deck.

You can also run these pistons/rods with a 401 crank (3.68” stroke), which puts them -0.002” ABOVE deck (on a 9.208” deck height). This combo would make a 330.4-cid stroker. IF your block needs to be milled, you could have the piston tops machined down accordingly, at a competent shop, to regain the Zero-deck.

This type of piston, rod, crank combo (ALL FORGED) is a bullet-proof combo for making great torque in a 304 and decent mileage, if set up properly (like with an AMC turbocharger cam).

Lastly, these pistons can also be run on the stock 304 crank/rods (3.44” stroke & 5.875” rod), which puts them 0.033” below deck. To do this, the 304 rods would have to be reamed out for the 390 wrist pin.

Quick note on block deck heights: 1966-69 blocks measure at 9.175” and 1970+ blocks are at 9.208”.
