I found a NOS Crane cam in my garage from th late 80's I think.
The grind info on the end of the cam is:

HMV 278-2-nc

Anyone have any old Crane literature to help ID this?

The Crane website had nothing since it must be an outdated grind. I have no idea where it came from

Maybe you should buy a Lottery Ticket .................
Just happen to have the Cam Card for that old Crane cam.

It was a long time ago and a lot has happened since then.
If memory serves it was a pretty good cam but needs about
10.2 or more static CR to get about 8:1 dynamic CR since the
intake valve closes at 72* after BDC. Motor also seemed to like
the dual pattern with more lift / duration on the exhaust
but it was used with a 3k stall and 3.73 gears, so don't know
how good it might be for low end torque, but did come on pretty
well above 2500 rpm's in a .030 over 343 with a Torker.

It's not something I would put in a heavy Jeep used to tow.

I must have bought it years ago for a street AMX. I have a buddy with a 69 Javelin that wants me to put together a low buck alternative to the 290 he has. I was going to throw togehter a 9.5 to 1 360, 291 heads, and use his cam, R4B and a holley 600 vacuum
