I've been through tons of post about camshaft but still have questions

I will go the comp cams route for my 360 rebuild, The engine is for a CJ5 1976 on 33", 3.73 stock gear and T18a tranny/dana 20 tc

-edelbrock perf intake, 4bbl edbk carb
-heads will be ported ( friend of mine for cheap :lo1l: )
-compression will be around 9:1

I will go with comp cams camshaft
should I use the 268H cam or the XE256H??

you know the drill... off-road torque mix rock and mud

thanks for your help

I had a 360 that I built for my CJ7. It had 9:1 pistons and a edelbrock performer intake. I tried three different cams in it before I finally found the one I liked and that performed the best.

To be honest the results suprised me. Desktop dyno the machine shop and even comp cams all said the first ones would work great. Well they did, above about 3000 rpm.

The first cam was a ELGIN prostock , 204 x 214 @ .050
Second, comp hi energy 260 ran much better than the Elgin but still wasn't a good crawling cam. Especially above 6000 feet.

Finally I tried a comp 252H hi-energy cam. Everything told me that this was too small of a cam for a 360. HA!! I put that in and it was like a new engine. Plenty of power and torque from idle all the way up to 4500 rpm. It was a great crawling cam. But it would also run down the highway at 3000 rpm with more oomph than the other cams.

I loved the 252H cam in my 360. I'd put one in another engine in a heartbeat.

My vote would be for the 256XE if that is the ones you are looking at.

Kaelen can I ask you what pistons were you using in your 360?

thanks for sharing

If I remember right they were a Badger cast piston. I don't remember the part number.

They were dished. The catalog had listed them as a 9:1 compression.

I had measured the cc's of the dish and they had worked out really close to 9:1.
