is there a certian name for the valve that turns on and off the coolant to the heater core ive done a search and cant find one .

just go get a 1/4 turn valve and a couple pipe fitting so that you can make it loop back and bypass the heater core but coolant will still flow

yes but there is a valve made for it and it looks a lot cleaner.

Did the 74 CJ have a valve or just a pipe? I assume that's the vehicle you're using it on.
Vendors like www.americanpartsdepot.com or www.kennedyamerican should have the valve.
My 69 AMX uses a cable controlled valve that screws into the manifold like the one here for $79. http://www.americanpartsdepot.com/cores.htm

My CJ just has pipes. What controls the heat is the damper inside the system, either lets airflow past it . . . or not.
I've thought about bypassing the flow, just never got around to it.
