I just replaced my front cam bearing(#1?) because it was over the tolerance listed in my books. It measured 2.1235 and the acceptable range given is 2.124-2.123. So, I purchased a whole set of bearings, scavaged some tools, replaced the bearing, and guess what! I now have a reading of 2.123.
Is this common? I was supprised to find the old bearing oversize to begin with and now have only improved the tolerance by .0005. Although I will not change the bearing again, I am courious why this happened and if I should be conserned.

Hmm 2.1235 is right between 2.123-2.124 and it was perfect ;)

Thanks for pointing out my typo...meant to say the acceptable tol. is 2.120-2.123. I looked at the book again and discovered that I still was not reading it correctly.

Book says JOURNAL DIAMETER...this seems to actually be the BEARING I.D. although it still doesn't work out quite right.

My original problem is that after replacing my #1 cam shaft bearing, I still end up with a cam to bearing tolerance of +.003. This is right at the end of the spec'd tolerance of .001-.003. I just expected to be within a thousandth or two after replacing the bearing.

measure the cam journals and see how they compare to factory spec for the cam

Still waiting for the cam to show up. Should be here by 8/20. Hope that is the end of it.

Cam showed up and fortunetely was slightly over spec. Gave me a final tolerance of .002. Well within the .001 to .003 ranfe in the book. At last a break.
