Have you ever tried a Windows 7 computer with a table?

wickedinhere
02-01-2012, 10:25 AM
I have only run it on a xp machine. You do know you have to have a parallel and serial port on the computer?

Charlene
02-01-2012, 11:22 AM
Yeah, we know about the ports. It is just harder to find a computer that still has XP on it.

wickedinhere
02-01-2012, 11:31 AM
Check out ebay they have a ton of used ones the one i got is in perfect condition and they do a fresh install of xp. I would also suggest getting corel drawx5 off of ebay
its under 100.00 and its the full version. let me know if you want the name of the sellers from ebay.

Charlene
02-01-2012, 12:42 PM
Sure, I would really appreciate the name of the seller. You never know who you can trust on there!

wickedinhere
02-02-2012, 06:37 AM
The computer guys username is"computerbase "
The coreldrawx5 guy is"blue-diamond777"

Charlene
02-02-2012, 10:26 AM
Thanks! I will check them out tonight. As far as corel draw goes, do you use that in addition to the CAD software or in place of it?

wickedinhere
02-02-2012, 10:43 AM
I use a few different cad programs, i use corelx5 and deltacad it takes time to learn them i am still learning.

Charlene
02-02-2012, 12:21 PM
Is deltacad what came with your table? We got bobcad.

wickedinhere
02-02-2012, 12:25 PM
I am not sure if i even got a cad program with my table, i just started with delta cad because its easier to learn.

Charlene
02-02-2012, 12:38 PM
:) okay! I should plug bobcad into my current computer and see how it feels.

wickedinhere
02-02-2012, 12:47 PM
Yeah i would try it. I normally draw and do my files inside then load them on a usb drive and plug it into my table computer.

Charlene

Thanks for the info on the computer. We got one too and it should arrive any day now!

I picked up a Panasonic CF28 toughbook which is water and dust proof. I do all my cad on my big workstation and send it over the network to the machine.

We thought about doing this, but wasn't sure if the software would let us. We will give it a try too. Thanks.

The TOughbook is mounted on the machine. All that I am doing is sending the cad file to it over the network that I have run from my office to the garage instead of putting it on a USB drive. THey should be able to do the same thing with their machine mounted Pc correct.

That's coming along really nice. Is this based on the oven I saw posted on Spider? Mess?! I can tell already that I am going to have to come up with a plan for all of the scrap...!! :eeeeek: (She says with her rose colored glasses on!)

I learned that trying to paint in cold weather can be challenging and here in louisiana the humidity is a problem. I use alot of steel-fx products and i have to clearcoat over the finish and the humidity make my clearcoat cloudy sometimes. I figured powdercoating will solve most of my problems i am also going to build a 4x4x8 powdercoating booth and a 8x8x8 climate controlled paint booth just so i have all my bases covered. YEs scrap is piling up in front of my shop i have a few sheets that will go back on the table cause they have some room for small parts. I am in the process of getting my shop ready for all this new stuff, my old 68 ford is going outside
under the awning to make room. LOL

I scored a new much larger container for acid diping my parts this morning. I am checking for leaks it will be nice to dip bigger parts now.

Charlene
02-12-2012, 04:49 AM
This made us think of a question. What do you do with the old acid bath? How do you dispose of it? Or, do you just keep adding to the old stuff?

wickedinhere
02-12-2012, 05:08 AM
It doesnt really get dirty, i havent had to change mine yet. I only dip parts that i use steel fx on cause you have to get the mil scale off to get a nice finish.

Lookin good! I assume the yellow in the pic is insulation. What did you come up with for insulation? I'd like to build an oven someday as well. Maybe not as big but I suppose some part or item would show up that's bigger than what the oven is. The thought crossed my mind that a divider could be built to section the oven by 1/2 or 1/3 so you wouldn't have to heat the whole thing for smaller parts or batches. Just use the heating elements in that part of the oven as well as the thermostatic control.

I started to do a smaller oven but i figured i better go as big as i could or i would be building another one. I used 2 inch mineral wool for insulation, i went with 4-3000 watt elements for heat.

Yes, powder coating will be so much easier and i can do it in any weather and with the clear powders i can use it with my steelfx coatings. They have alot of cool powders and are alot more durable than painting. I will also doing other stuff besides what i cut out. The closest guys that powder coats is 45 miles away and does a horrible job. I had him do 4 rims for me and they looked like he added small rocks to the powder and wouldnt fix it so i just left the rims. I will have around 3000.00 total with oven, booth and gun setup so i saved a ton on building it myself.

Well i fired up the booth and oven up this morning and coated my first piece i put on a bronze stain hit it with a scotch brite pad to make it more green and the coated it with 80% clear. It came out really good for my first piece I even got good coverage in the cuts, the money i spent is really gonna pay off. NO FIRE OR EXPLOSION so i guess i did it right.

Thanks, the main reason for the powder coating setup was to use the clears over the copper and other stuff from steel fx. It looks like its gonna work out great and the weather wont be an issue anymore when finishing pieces. The clear powder only takes 10 minutes in the oven then its done.
