As some of you may know we started discussing a new forged crank (stroker and stock replacement) over 10 years ago. At the time we had alot of interest and folks ready to buck down some coin for a stroker forged crank. The idea was to make strokes and rod pin sizes in various sizes. Enough to satisfy the 95% of all AMC/Jeep folks out there. The investment was heavy and the markets were shaky. We invested in capital equipment we got a pair of vertical machining centers with 60"s of travel to add to our equipment to cover all the new ideas that would come and in our own brand of oil AMC-HD (5 years ahead of the ZDDP scare). This put the crankshaft forging out for at least 5 years. Time went on and business kept creeping up every month, every year...new equipment, new ideas, selling and trading equipment to get what we needed put the idea out even further. We built a new building and added a 10 foot bed CNC machining center and are about to add a bridge mill for new ideas. Now we are in a great position, stronger than ever we are ready to make the transition to being the first in the world to offer a forged replacment crankshaft for the AMC V8. We are looking at the forged crankshaft idea once again.

I/we would absolutely LOVE your input. Please get into our forum and tell us what you want to see, if your ready for a new forged crank or any other opinion. We have a new server and emails are working 100% so please come here and speak up.

Thank you so much!

There may be a chance to get a pre-order discount as well.

Are you going with a 360 stroker like you discussed a loooooong time ago?

If this flies we will have these strokes

3.44 3.68 3.75 3.8 3.85 3.9 3.95 4"

Wow that"s great, I don't need a new one yet but it's nice to see them become available.

Awesome! 4 inch stroke 2.1 chevy pin for a .940 ls style rod would be great

At 4" the journal overlap becomes miniscule. A 4" crank should have a huge corner radius like a 5/32 radii. This is argumentally the best case scenario. Rod clearancing and rod bearing clearancing should be done. After going down that road a ton of times I can say you can make GREAT power with a 4" stroke but it needs to be done right. Getting folks to understand a 5/32" radii instead of a 1/8" radii is tough.

I know I'm in a VERY small group, but what are the possibilities of being able to get a really short stroke? 2.906...... or 3.00? Vintage racing IS growing. If the one I have saws itself in half, I'd like to not spend years searching for another; or a couple.... Thoughts? Thanks, Ken

Internal balancing would be awesome :-)
New tall deck height blocks would make us all smile :-)

I currently own 5 AMC's, all with v8's and the idea of stroking these engines without all the hassle of chasing parts would be great, I just finished building a 422cid stroker and what a pain in the *ss, Chasing parts and expensive, I run a small Automotive Repair shop and have had AMC's my whole life, Available stroker cranks would be great!

I would be interested in a crank for a future build, finances don't allow for one right now. My dad has already bought a billet crank for his car, nice piece. Not cheap!

I would be interested also.
I think a matched crank rods and piston combo would be for me.
I really do not want to spend time mixing and matching the parts trying to get a combo to work.

I'm new to the forum (as of today) but have been ordering parts from bulltear for years and have had AMC's since I was 15, I currently have 2 builds in the mix but would stop them in their tracks to have stroker crankshafts in them.

I'm with crazyamc on liking the idea of a short stroke option. Vintage is growing and certain weight/power class limits make a short stroke option a good idea to have. The trick is what should that stroke be...a 3.28 or something shorter for use with bigger bore blocks.

I would be keen to use a stroker crank in a 360 build. I don't have a lot of experience matching up parts so a combo of parts that are known to work would be great.
My build is planned for late this year, hopefully you get the idea up and in production.
I would be interested in a pre order.
Like a few others I am new to this forum but have been looking for a stroker crank solution for a while.

I dont care how we get this done it needs to get done. If Bulltear doesnt do it then the idea fades away permanently. I dont think anyone would be crazy enough to even try to do this. So far the commitment is only a couple of guys. We need 200 guys to come forward for any stroke combination. I dont care if its done at cost to get it done. A 4340 stroker crankshaft in 2014 is not a $700 crankshaft.

Whomever of you is ready to step up (meaning PRE-PAY) for a crank let me know via PM and I will give you the bottom line. We have had a ton of views but very little actual feedback. If your not ready dont send a PM just post up what strokes you would like to see. I will commit to 40 crankshafts. That means we need 160 more AMC'ers.

Jeepsr4ever,

I sent you a PM. I would step up, just need some more info.

Jeepsr4ever,

You ask whom is ready to step up, then I do, then you tell me I am "probably" a day late for the preorder. What?

jeepsr4ever
08-05-2014, 07:20 AM
These details are preliminary. There will be a discount for preorders for sure. 71Humpster your on the list so don't think you've been tossed aside.

Back to the plan
3.28 stroke 2.100 rod up to 4.00 stroke 2.100 rod

The plan
3.28, 3.44, 3.574, 3.68, 3.75, 3.8, 3.9, 4.0

So we cover 290-343, 304-360, 390, 401

.020 AMC 360 with a 3.8 stroke crank gives you a 401. We may scratch the 3.75 and the 3.9 I am not sure on that. It may also be possible to get the tooling made to cover the very short strokes. Short strokes may be a little more expensive. I know folks are interest but 10 folks?

The plan is to offer stroker kits as well as stroker cranks. We can do some pretty wild kits with these numbers. On the other side a forged stock replacement crankshaft for all those motors is a pretty killer thing to have as well.

I have heard that the 390 oiling holes is drilled different than the 401 Cranks. Some about oiling ATDC instead og BTDC.

Great point and that is one of the great parts about this deal. It and many more things will be addressed.

71Humpster

Not an expert by any means, but I was looking at something conservative, A 6" chevy rod, with 2" journal and 3.899' stroke and some nice pistons would put us around 425 cu in engine that should be very reliable and make great streetable power. I am not a racer, just looking to do a nice stout cross country engine. But that is just me, I don't need 1000 HP.

That info was from the sticky in the engines page.

Any idea, when these will be available? My 304 quit making Oil Pressure!, no sense in wasting time on it to figure out why when I got 401's layin around.

Currently we don't have an ETA. Drawings are being made right now to ensure we can get all these strokes out of the same forge tool.

I would be interested in stock size 3.44 and 3.68 strokes. Would also be interested in forged stock type I-beam rods for 360.

Also has this discussion been posted on every AMC forum and Jeep forums ?
People have to know about this to be able to show their interest

Bulltear, mark me down as someone who would buy an AMC 401 forged crankshaft if you had them to sell. I am interested in a stock crankshaft with OEM standard specs.

If I can sell the blower engine, put me down for one. I'm not sure on what stroke and pin size to get. My best guess is the best combination that makes the best power.

Man, it's been a LONG time since I have actually been on this site. I kind of feel guilty.... So check this out, hopefully I can make up for it. LOL I still have the jeep rust in my blood so, I am looking for a forged lightened crank that weighs 44-45lbs with a star cut flange,.... basically a racing crank. I am running left turns on dirt... as I Built a Street Stock and here soon, another one for my girl....

◦Profiled aero-wing counterweights
◦Pendulum cut to reduce rotating mass
◦Straight shot and chamfered oil holes
◦Nitride hardened and shot peened
◦Lightening holes in all rod throws
◦Large radius on all journals

What would this run me and how soon? lol Oh yeah, I will need stickers for the race car. Might do a wrap on the car would love to put Bulltear on it!

I race dirt race cars and I'd love to build an AMC but, it's not looking like its going to happen.
