Hi,

Somehow I lost my wire locks, i am sure they were shipped because I remember to see them.

Today I took my block and pistons to the machinist and realise no wire locks were in the box.

Do I really need them? Am planning to use OEM 242 (4.0) connecting rods with 258 crankshaft. Are these rods "floating"

My offset pistons have a dish volume of 20 cc436

Please see attached file, it says the part number is 927-072-WL.

Also, I found this:

http://www.krammloxusa.com/race-tech.html.

If I really need them, do you sell it and are you able to do fast shipping?

Thanks,

Leonardo Colina.

Your rods are a press fit you will not need the wire locks

Hi,

Turns out that the machinist tested the pin in the stock 4.0 rods I have (stock brand new). They fit tight, but no need to press fit. The machinist said I need to use the wire locks. A friend told me I must bush the rods.

What way should i go?

Thanks,

Leonardo Colina.

I have been told that stock pins are 0.931" diameter.

The specs sent by Racetec says 0.927".

There is a difference of 0.931-0.927= 0.004"

Specs are generic for the most part. That piston was made for the stock pin.

I have no doubt the piston was made for stock pin. The problem is the pin racetec sent. It does not press fit the piston. In the specs sent by Racetec it says the pin is 0.927". Summitracing says the stock pin is 0.931".

Did you try the pin or are you guessing from reading the specs?

Yes I Tried the pin. This photo was taken with my phone. I have here with me one rod, one piston and one pin if you need me to take more pictures.

437

Right now I only see 3 options:

Request to the machinist to make some bushings. 0.004" seems imposible to make.
Order a new set of wire locks and use them. Some people say it is not recommended to use float setup with non-floating rods.
Buy locally stock 4.0 pin.

I just want my engine to have the best option, what do you recommend?

Thanks.

The lock may be a .927 which will work for you. But the pin should be .9308 in measurement. I suggest you measure the pin.

I have no doubt the piston was made for stock pin. The problem is the pin racetec sent. It does not press fit the piston. In the specs sent by Racetec it says the pin is 0.927". Summitracing says the stock pin is 0.931".

Pistons are NOT designed to allow the pin to press fit into them. They should slide. .927 is the wire lock size but the pin should be bigger.

Sorry, I made a mistake. It does not press fit the rod (stock 4.0 brand new).
