View Full Version : cutting diamond plate
I tried to cut some aluminum 1/8" diamond plate, diamonds up. The torch contacted the first diamond it came to and kicked it off the magnetic mount. So I flipped the plate over and tried again and it seemed to cut fine but not through the diamonds on the back side. I used the settings in the hypertherm oper. manual. 65 amps cut speed 280, 124 volts. dthc on auto. How or what do I need to cut diamond plate?

When your cutting diamond plate you need to consider the diamonds. You cannot cut it using a tool set up for the thinnest area. You need to use a tool set up for a thickness more towards the thicker area.

Ok I can do that. What about height control that raises and lowers for the diamonds so the torch doesn't collide with diamonds?

The secret to cutting diamond tread or tread plate is to use a slightly higher tip volts so your torch will never collide with the diamonds

This is what I cut at (65 amps cut speed 280, 124 volts) What would you suggest. My hyperthem has a range of 25amps to 85amps. I have no info on settings below 45amps. does anyone know of settings for cutting below 45amps?
Thanks Gary

Look in your plasma cutter book. This will give you speeds per amperage, per material as well as tip voltage and pierce delay/pierce time
