I've seen Amc roller lifters in the new Comp Cams Cataloge. I have also seen them on the Crane website.

Hope this helps.

Small block Chevy work. Same ratio and everything.

I thought SMC would have different bores for the lifters to sit in, I think i did some research a while back and found that BBC's were closer and ford shared the same lifter, But i cant remember

We've used them on 390, I assume the 401 is the same? Chevy has 2 rocker ratios, 6.1 and 7.1. If I'm not mistaken, the 6.1 is what you need.

I only saw them in the catalogues and no prices were listed.

BUT the lifter bore diameter is .904 and some of the dodge engines have the same lifter bore size.

But this web site has the prices for the Crane roller lifters.

Both CompCams & Crane make solid roller lifters for AMC. Crane also makes hydraulic roller lifters & cams, but aren't in the catalog(special order). The AMC lifter diameter is .904, but a Chrysler lifter is different. The oil feed hole/groove is in a different location. It would probably work in a stock engine, but with a higher lift cam, oiling to the top end may be compromised. Also, while the ratio is the same, a 1.6 SBC roller rocker is NOT the same as one actually made for an AMC. The ratio isn't the problem, it's the distance from the fulcrum to the valve tip. The SBC rocker is shorter. They'll move the valves, but the geometry is WAY off. Roller cam set-up are very expensive, & bring up a bunch of new problems....mainly a way to control cam walk. Not impossible to do, just more work to add to the project.

Crane is the only company currently making roller HYDRAULIC lifters for an AMC - more may follow if they sell enough. I just ordered a set they aren't cheap $650!
