What is different about how he is running this D60? I E-mailed the guy but haven't got anything back from him..... I wonder how it worked. He said he took 11 inches off it total!

a couple of notes here

1. he needed to clock his t-case to run an almost centered diff ot his front DS will run his tranny (personal experience)
2. its overkill for his jeep because he cant runn a huge tire with that length of axle tube, and whats the point of a 60 swap when you arent going with a larger tire? maybe he is running 6:17 gears (who knows)
3. Its been done lots of times, ive done it and been bummed out about the clocking and fact that you cant run huge tires due to the tires rubbing the springs
3. nice work here looks like a garage pro! :)
4. great pics!

Good to know why NOT to do it. Axtually it looks like he found out the hard way. It looks like he re-did it:

is that a hp ford 60? if he was to run it like in the 1st pic, hecould have just used a rear dana 60 and converted it with knuckles for the front, That is what i am currently building

The upper picture is a GM or Dodge standard rotation (low pinion) 60, the lower picture of 78304CJ-7's is a GM left axle tube, probably complete front end.

I dont know toy, that pinion offset to the left looks really like a hp 60, but i forget what the top of them looks like and i cant tell where the pinion is in that pic, you may be right

It looks as though it is a D60 out of a mid-eighty's K30HD/M800, because of the machining of the center section and location of the spring mounting surface & spring plate bolt hole's in the case.
I have used both FW Chevy and Dodge axle's. But prefer the Dodge D60's, because of the mounting flange's and axle widths. So they do not have to be shorten, so you can run larger tire (39" to 44") without a problem rubbing the springs, radius and/or control arms, and can maintain a much tighter turning radius. It also helps with front locker binding on hard surfaces (i.e., rocks) and a better side bite in sand, mud and deep snow. :t:

Well put mark. I have a dodge 60 sitting right here but sadly its being sold with a whole 85' 1 ton dodge dumptruck for $1500.........oh well. I am thinking mogs soon or a 60 front but the last 60 front i went with bent the sh#T out of my springs, I use 6" lift springs, I need to start doing 4 link or 3 links

MC, With all of the R&D work that our Engine and Chaises Group has done, we find that a W-Four Link works the best. With the W-link you can utilize either coils & shocks, coil overs, and/or pneumatic springs, for articulation and stability on/off road usage's. :t:

They are working on several other ideas at this time also.

Chewy was a test mule for several of thier ideas, before finely ending up with leaf springs at all four corners with no spring clips for better articulation. The new C104 Commando (Chewy II) that is being built for me currently will be using the W-link and pneumatic springs. So that I may make use of our self leveling cab technology, stay level while playing in those off camber situations.... 111!!!

have you seen this http://offroadonly.com/products/suspension/airock/

Its a really cool self leveling system that utilizes air pressure. I was at their shop and watched it in motion .....very cool!! I am thinking along these lines for my rig when i decide on an axle setup

MC, Our pneumatic self leveling cab technology, is very similar to that, but we have our system's on a gaggle of our DOD rigs.
Plus our system is good for 4", 8" and 12" (neutral position), is computer driven and are available for several different GVW's. :t:

Hey Guy's, OK, OK it looks like I'll be able to post some pictures soon, I have found some old hard copies of Chewy from when I first found / saved him at / from a salvage yard, 10 days later with the SOA on Dana 44's and 35's, then two years later with all four tire's off the ground getting it on up White Knuckle Hill at Brush Mountain, Altoona Pa. That part of Brush rises something like 1700 feet in about a 1/2 to 3/4's of a mile I think you'll like them. :!:
I'm going over to friends house tomorrow night to try and get them scanned. :? =D> #-o

Even found some from my old 1977 FJ55 Wagon with a Bowtie 454ci on a set of Currie Ford 9" axles and some old Armstrong TruTracks. Let's see just how many old fart's / timer are out there and remember those as being some of the tallest tire's available to us at that time, for you young ones that was just back in 1978 so now you can see just how far we have come. :-| :-({|=

Wellll.... I had a set of 1 month old TruTracks on a 76 Ford F-250-long bed. Tried to run some Jeep trails with a pack of Californians (Terra del Sol) ... good thing one of them had on-board air and an extra package of tire plugs (and a LOT of patience) - I had 11 flats in one day from the catus spines and sticks poked into my tires!!

Hey Guy's, This is the Infamous Chewy doing White Knuckle Hill on the Southeastern face of Brush Mountain, Altoona, PA at the Memorial Day Run of 1999. :? :?

The slope of this hill is like a 2 to 1 rise, the PA Blue Stone varies in size from gravel and six inches to twelve to twenty-four inches, and some rocks are the size of a small automobile, you cannot walk up it, but you can crawl on your hands and knees up it. 111!!!

Chewy at this time has Dana 44's with 4.88's, Detroit Lockers, alloy shafts and disc brakes, and an AMC 390ci Short Deck motor, this is a month after the Big Skip. =D>

As you can see there is nothing but air and dust under all four tires, I was the Trail Boss for this group that day, and was showing them how to make it up that portion of the hill when it was dry. =D> :-| :!:

Wheeee and away we go....... If you notice the looks of disbelief from a few of the other guy's from the group, that after watching Chewy and I they decided to take the go around in lieu of White Knuckle Hill..... :sa: :t: :-|

One day I'll tell how it got that name from Jimi-Y.  :!:

I said that it was a good one........ =D> =D> =D>
