I ran accross a few online articles detailing how to convert a dana20 to a gear ratio of 2.46:1 using dana18 parts and Bronco dana20 rear slider gear. (I just cant bring myself to pay $850 for the TerraLow 3.15:1 kit - nearly $1k for a dana20 after buying seals & bearings) Plus it would be more uniquie and a challenge to scrounge up the parts than buy some bolt-in kit.

The few articles all say to use the rear slider gear with the p/n stamp 18 8 58 on it. This gear is supposed to come out of a 66-72 T-style bronco dana20. Does anybody know if how spicer gear numbers work? I have been told by a bronco salvage company that spicer had identical gears with different numbers and any rear slider gear out of an early bronco dana20 would work.

Ive also had another salvage guy tell me that the third number referes to the production run. I know that this is incorrect since nearly all gears from a dana20 are 18 8 ##. Even if gears with different numbers may look identical (tooth & spline count) they may have different tooth pitch angles/etc.

Too bad dana doesnt publish info for their old axles & t-cases anywhere. There is too much wrong information out there about this info.

Do you still have any bronco dana20 rear slider gears laying around? I know it needs to have 33teeth and accept a 15spline shaft.

Also, any idea on how spicer/dana numbers their gears? Just like block casting numbers, we need some spicer gear number breakdown.

I actually knew a guy who had one... He wanted more for it than the teralow kit - and the scout dana300 is still 2.62:1. I decided against it since there is no point as it would be more expensive and have a higher ratio.

I have heard that the scout dana300 had an aluminum case though. Not sure if that info is correct.
