My brother has a 1988 1500 GMC truck that he uses for plowing it has a tired 4.3 liter v6 in it and we are thinking about dropping in a tree-fiddy TBI but I can't find what the 5 speed manual (aluminum case) tranny is. I want to make sure it will hold up to a 350 before I go droppin' it in there.

Anyone got any sites with the info on these things. I searched but came up empty.

Thanks

Well after some looking I think it is this:

I don't know why this guy calls it a getrag NV3500 as getrag is totally different then New Ventura IIRC. But it looks like that tranny except it is 4x4.

sheesh the only thing i remember about getrag is that they built a heavy duty tranny for turbo stealths and 3000gt's...hmmm

Getrags were used in Cummins dodges in the late 80s for a short time. They were interum between the NP435 4spd and the NVG4500 5 speed. AA makes an adapter specifically to get rid of the Getrag in the Big Dodges. Its made in germany and a Mechanic friend of mine has said that he has seen several come in for replacement. while the 435s and 4500s are going strong.

the transmission is prolly a 3500. They came behind the v8s in 1500 series trucks too. Dunno how long that it would last behind a 350 and under a heavy right foot though.
