I worked on the front knuckles on my CJ/Scout Dana 44 today, I even made up a page for the few pictures I took Knuckle Spin write up (http://members.cox.net/jeepinrandy/knuckle.htm)

Boy this is allot of work, and not for the faint of heart :!: Taking a 10 pound sledge to the front knuckles really makes you think. Not done yet, but the grunt work is basically done. :t: =D>

Here are a few of the pics....

You only used a 10 pounder? Shooooo, I had my friend park on top of the axle housing and I used a 20 pounder on mine (until I realized that I hadn't broken all of the weld yet!). All I have to say is that people could probably hear my dumb arse 10 miles away. MY ears hurt for a good 10 minutes afterwards. :lo1l:

 Having the 18" lever and the weight of the Jeep on it helped :t:

Great writeup - I have been debating going to scout 44's myself (mostly because my 14yr old brother in law bought two scouts for $1000 and will be parting out one of them for extra $$. I could probably pick up the front & rear scout axles for under $100.

I am not sure if I want to go this way though since at least my '74 cj has dana44 rear and dana30 front - with scout dana44 disc brakes up front. I feel sorry for you later model cjs - '76-86 with the AMC 20 - ha ha. 8) Wide track axles of the scout would be kinda nice - narrow track gets kinda tippy on off camber slopes. What is the width difference between scout axles and wagoneer dana44's. Also - weren't wagoneer's 6-bolt lug? At least the scout were 5-5.5" so no wheel fit issues there.

Waggy's ran 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern. There were also 2 widths ox axles that they ran. A lot of them also ran Model 20's in the rear, but a much better version than in the CJ. I beleive the narrow track are a little under 60 inches from WMS to WMS. The scouts are 58"s wide, while widetrack CJ axles are 56"s wide, and narrow track are 54"s wide. I am running Scout axles on my Jeep right now. Can't wait to upgrade to one tone stuff!
