Guys I need some help.

A local Chevy Savvy guy, also a good friend, and one whom I seek advice from, has serious doubts that I'll be able to hit 450 hp on my build up.

Even sarcastically enough to say that if I could get 450 hp out of my engine that he would GIVE me his race car; which is Chris' Pride and Joy... with his own personally built Chevy 350 in it. Ok so personally I have no interest in the race car, but still he's not believing that I can hit 450. The bet is on, and I don't back down without a fight.

So here's the Topic:
First I’d like to hear some bragging stories of 360s and 401s with HP figures, and how extensive you took each respective build. – to build up faith.

Secondly I will post a little later what I have already done, and what I plan on doing to this engine. I will say that it is a Stock 1984 year 360. Stock Crank, Stock Rods, plans for Venolia Pistons. More details to come later, but I’d like to hear some experiences from you first.

So lets hear some AMC’s with Bragging Rights!
HP Torque And RPM’s where your readings were taken.

Not going down without a fight

To start with, you'll want to invest in some forged rods and a forged crank.... or get a 401 (which has them stock).

450 hp 360

401 crank rods
10-1 at least
roller chain
electric fuel pump
roller rockers
solid lifter cam and lifters
under drive pulley
oiling mods
headers
R4b or torker equivalent
large 700cfm (at least) double pumper
110 octane
Ported heads (like the ones you already have)

Remember to do these

Good locks on the valves
The right valve springs
Balanced rotating assembly
Basic rebuilding items

You can do it, Really doesnt take that much with the right setup, Is it worth it to you to make this motor very very strong?

Cheap for a race car ;-)
don't forget the axles to support the power!

I wouldnt worry about it, it can be done i am quite sure of it. i have a 401 in an Ih pickup that i am quite certain is atleast 450. It desktop dynoed at about 475, and from the people i have talked to say that it is a relitively accurate figure. Here is a list of the things that i have done that i can think of off the top of my head
4150 holley 750cfm carb
offey 4bbl intake
polished rods
complete dynamic engine ballance
double roller timing chain
ported and polished dogleg exhaust
ported and polished heads
high compression hypereutectic pistons
petronics ignigtor ignition
45,000 volt coil
8mm sparkplug wires
custom cold air intake with single filter (would like dual cone filters)
roller rockers
performance cam (cant remember exact specs)
3angle valve jpb
aftermarket pushrods
rebulit harmonic ballencer
that is all i can think of right now, i think i might have got it all! feel free to ask if you have any questions, i would love to see you prove him wrong!

Tell your Chevy pal you'll take him up on his offer!

You can then sell his cookie-cutter clone and buy an AMX!!!

Anybody can bolt together a 500HP+ 390/401 for less than $5000 in NEW parts and machining.

With used parts, maybe $3000, if you are starting with absolutely nothing.

That's a GUARANTEE!!!
Let your friend read this, I'll take his pink slip in about 9 seconds!!!
(and that's with one 4bbl and no NOS)
