I have been looking at the AMC rods and wondering if anyone has ever tried to machine the rods ends for larger / stronger bolts? Along those lines, could you change the way the bolt connects to the AMC rod and drill and tap the top part of the rod and use a threaded bolt to pass through the bottom of the rod and screw into the top part, similar to the Lentz/Carillo rods? The Lentz rods appear to be very similar to the AMC rods with this modification. Also, the original performance AMC manual states that with a few rod modifications, repeated 8k rpms (stock rod bolts) is achievable. When we were racing in the early 70's we would run through the traps at 7500 with no issues. Just thought if this mod were possible, the stock rods would be able to achieve the RPM ranges seen by the Carillo/Lentz's.

Thanks,

Mark

Oh Yeah lots of mods have been done over the years and lots have worked and lots have failed, I personally wouldnt mind making 4130 moly rods for 360's......hmmm :-|
