CJ8 Conversion Build going slow but going. Check back often.
really like what I'm seeing ! great job it will be a unique build :t:
Do I really need this since I am going w/a V8 & no fuel line return. It's 25 yrs old. I know the theory behind it but not really sure exactly.
Thanks,
Jim

what is it? :-|
I believe that was part of the evap system. It would have been under the driver rear fender, and connected to a charcoal canister under the hood and gas tank. part of it is a check valve that would shut off fuel in case of a roll over. Just plug the fitting on top of the tank and pitch the rest.
The one on my CJ rusted and started leaking in less than 3 years, I took it off over 25 years ago.
It may be of some value to someone doing a stock restoration. Those parts are made from unobtainium. :?: :?: :?:

Yep, for sale to the highest bidder. The 21gal tank goes in this week :)
P.s. Mudrat, I think this is what U were looking for a couple years ago when I sent U that other part.
Well, the tank is in and plumbed, tranny lines run, re-built 3 core rad, rear brake lines in and ready to set the tub on Saturday :)

Well thanks to some of the CCJ club, the tub was installed today along with the 1" daystar BL. Sorry I couldn't get more involved pics but someone had to do something :) Next week, prep/paint.
Scott had to weld the two rear nuts inside the frame, when tightening, they spun.

Well, removed some surface rust, use por's metal ready, primed the bare spots to prevent more rust, sanded and wet sanded the tub. Next I will go over some shiners & the prime the entire tub with Red Oxide Primer.

Bought some U-POL spray in bed liner for the conversion. Picked it up this morning and the guy sells POR-15 cheap. 25 bucks a pint and 35 (I think) for a quart.
http://www.street2mud.com/albums/M17...1973.sized.jpg
Some thing like that, but did the plug and chuck routine on my broke pieces too. And NOBODY re-pops those. It might have been a good idea at the time, but technology marches on and so did I :wink:Quote:

Now here is where I sanded the tub w/180 grit and hand sanded/buffed the tub w/a red Scotch pad per the U-POL instructions. I added the 180 grit, wanted the stuff to stick as good as it can.

Ok I'm tired and I am very please w/this product. Prep was 180 grit and then followed up by a red Scotch pad. I wanted it really scuffed due to some of the POR-15 used and old paint on top of paint. Way to easy w/the spray on. I had the compressor @ 120psi and regulated the spray @ the gun. I did some test shots w/just air w/the compressor set @ 50psi to get the feel, then raised the compressor and adjusted @ the gun. Worked out well and when I changed bottles I just unhooked the air line to keep the consistency for the next bottle. After the first coat & stuck the gun in some lacquer thinner and shot until the gun was clean. Waited an hour while it bakes in the sun & shot the last coat w/the main object concentrating on the bed since it will take the most abuse. So, how does it look? I'm sure it will pop when the OD gets on there. :)

Looks great Jim, and the "spray is the way"!!!! I did the roll on in the inside of the YJ (sprayed the undercoat) and it took 3 coats inside and doesn't look near that good!!!
Thanks Pat, and thanks for helping me get back on-line.
Hopefully I can shoot the outside w/OD tomorrow if not on Monday, we will see.
All that is left is:
Fuel pump
Exhaust routing/mufflers (using stock manifolds)
Cut rear drive shaft to fit
Lokar kick down (unless MC has one for a TF-999 to AMC 360)
Front brake hoses
Fix the windshield and get glass (75bucks)
Add the front bracket to the power steering pump
Get a return p-steering line
Install the interior
Get a mini spool for the rear (in time)
Make some rock sliders for the sides (this will cover the hole that I soaked the POR-15 into)
Transfer title/get tag
That might be it. Trying to finish no later than the first weekend in May but we will see. Moving 1June09
I'm glad I made this list, I might have to refer back to it 111!!!
P.S. I ordered the oil block off plate from MC a few days ago, hope it will help the 360.

Ya I know, it would have been more of a headache to cut it out and re-weld it (I tried) since I have a el-chepo welder and it just melts the metal even when I do it in spurts. I POR-15 the heck out of it and poured it in there after the required prep so I don't think it will go anywhere. Plus, I rock guard will be covering this spots and covered in OD on the front & POR-15 on the back side.
Thanks for the complements,
Next the doors, dash and factory rims in OD w/the wheel having a Black accent on the outer edge. Stay tuned.

Pretty awesome Jim your booking through this project!! Is that the kid helping you? I need to make it down for a scramble so I can hold Pat back from stealing jeeps after a few brews :?: errrr
Yes, long nights & that is my son, I went to Alabama this past weekend and picked up my daughter who graduated with honors from Faulkner University w/a AS in Biology, she is the one who jumped in on the last set of pics to help out. I might need some help w/a part of the engines wiring and will post later in the engine section. Have to run down to Tampa to see a heart/kidney patient.
I have factory rims I'm going to paint up later, I am moving @ the end of the month and wil finish the toucjes after, want to drive it to the next location :)
Thanks again,
Jim
P.S. I have not received the parts/tracking # yet.

Great progress, looks like Advanced came through with a fuel pump. The Thermostat housing looks like it might be a replacement cast iron piece sold by parts stores that is actually made for an Oldsmobile and will fit an AMC but doesn't line up very well with the pad, bolt holes, or ports in the intake. They work, but an actual cast aluminum AMC thermostat housing would fit, line up, and seal better, for what it's worth, not a big deal, just mentioning it.
Wow, I didn't know that. When I took it off the PO had broken the left ear off the INTAKE  :(: :(: :(: where the bolt goes into the intake. I sealed it up and put a 195* stat in and it's tight. I hope it doesn't leak, it shouldn't cause it's on the passenger side of the ear. Some people. I wonder what else is rigged in this motor   #-o
