Dana 44 Rear ('86 CJ)
I noticed some (very little) fluid on the drivers side rear and it smells like gear lube. I would rather see if I could clean it up and put some 3M Super 300 on it for the time being seeing that I am going to rework her Jeep when the 8 is completed.
I did notice on some rear seals that from the factory there is a yellow glue type sealer. Is this sealer available today?
What are your thoughts (yes I know, while I have it apart yank it and replace the seal)?
If I was to replace the seal, where would I buy one that will last and not made in CHINA!
Thanks,
Jim

The Dana 44 they used in the 86 CJ is kind of an odd bird. The center section is Dana 44 but the outer bells, backing plates, and brakes are the same as an AMC 20. I've never had one apart, so I'm not sure if the seals are Dana or AMC.
If you're getting fluid out, first check the diff to make sure it's not over full, and there's no water in there. It's more than likely the inner seal, which can be replaced fairly easily.

Thanks Bob, no water, well, I think :) I was buried in h20 in one hold in Fla.
No inner seal that I know of.
