pre 76 years and some 86 models had stock 44's in the rear. the early ones were narrower than the narrow track cj's and the later ones were regular wide track. they all had drum brakes. :?

72-75 CJ5s had narrow track 30 spline flanged 44s from the factory. 71 and older CJ 44s were 19 spline with a hub like the AMC 20.
Just a FYI for the 86 only widetrack 44. These are oddballs, they have an AMC 20 4 bolt flange and use AMC 20 backing plates and drums, so I'd assume you'd have to use an AMC 20 disc brake kit.

But they still have the 44 tube thickness & one piece axles, correct.
Is there anywhere where we could verify the the brakes on the 44/20? Maybe when I'm @ a parts store I'll ask them to look up a 44 & 20 for the drum brakes & see if it's the same part number.

I have a set too :oops: Bought the drums, bead blasted, and HT painted (black), had'm trued and never used them since I went with disks on my AMC20 before I installed them 111!!!Quote:

:-| I had a 75 CJ5 with the 20 looking pumpkin and what started as a 304 (then went to a built 327 4-bolt).
