I'm confused, thought zinc was necessary for break in, and flat tappet cams. Used with Rotella 15-40

Springs were new and matched to summit 8600 camshaft. 3angle valve job with new seals.

Thanks so much Bob! I may take you up on the offer. I did not replace the rod bolts, and in hindsight I will. Rods were magnafluxed, so my initial assessment was that a rod bolt failed.

I built a 360 last year, and threw a rod through the oil pan a few months ago. I had just changed the oil after a few hundred miles and added zinc in as prescribed.

Do you guys know if I need to match the 502-2 heads? Or will other heads match up ok with my other head?

Jim, I got the head off, but don't see anything out of the ordinary. I looked for cracks, but don't see any to the naked eye. Is there an exact spot to look?

Ok, will be pulling the head today and checking all of the above. Plan to get the head back to the machine shop to check it fully tomorrow.

Bob, quick update, got new head bolts from this great engine shop in Belmont. $15. The 14 bolt had a good amount of white coolant on it when I took it out.

Installed and retorqued in order in 4...

That's the plan, I'll be pulling the head tonight. Clearly fresh coolant leaking pretty good between head gasket and block on bottom side. Will get head to machine shop tomorrow.

So I tore down an old 360 and had it machined 0.030 over, crank 10/10 , new camshaft and lifters, new springs, heads done completely.

Thanks Bob that's great to hear. The machinist is doing a full valve job on the heads with upgraded springs, so I expect it to be a strong engine.

Any suggestions on exhaust? NC doesn't have much...

Also, with the price of the cometic being so high, we are just going to deck the block and use the standard head gasket.
