7 to 10 bucks every 3000 miles is a lot better than a couple grand for a rebuild.

I've been using Fram, but it sounds like I'm going to change that, Thanks...

I think AC Delco also came out with some good ones.. Duragard or doublegard, something like that.. I think they're a purolator though, I'm not sure.. Wix I think is the top brand... You can do an oil analysis from Amsoil, it's only around 20$ in the states.. If you use a synthetic, and change your filters at regular intervals for extended drains... You can also add a bypass oil filter to thoroughly clean the crap out of the oil... Although these concepts are not so popular on this board. I think I'm the only guy pushing this stuff here.. I'm just about to install my Motorguard unit on mine, I'm interested to see it at work. Apparently it can remove a few quarts of water out of the oil, not a bad thing when us guys are always muddin' in eastern Canada..
Frank, are you saying an off engine filter system (mounted on the fenderwell or where ever)? And your using synthetic lubricants? As for "This board" I'm not sure we've ever dicussed off engine purifiers. We did discuss at some length pre-oilers though. The ones to pump up the oil pressure before you crank the motor. Not really cost effective for what we do though ...Originally Posted by FrankNB

i use penzoil 15/40 oil and penzoil filter in all my vehicles.
ps: im a newbie to the forum so i would like to say hi to all my fellow fsjeepers
Well , I guess Im done with Fram..I always used them never gave it a thought..I guess It never occured to me that too much filtration is bad.. but after pulling this 360 apart and seeing that it MUST have been recycling dirty oil.. What oil viscosity is recommended? I remember reading here in one of the forums about certain wieghts causing wear cause of the shear.

Don't think it would make it to 100K, best experiment I have seen
was a new ~79 maybe 80 ish (It was a while ago) Chev Suburban
brand spanken new at the time, customer ran it without a oil change
just added make up oil when low, made it ~36K when the engine
siezed. Oil (if that is what you would call it) in the oil filter looked
like jelly. Cool experiment, that is one data point I am glad some else
payed to get.
Get real on the 10K oil changes, that maybe OK on a over the
road rig that runs 24/7 lightly loaded with oil analisys on a contiinuous
basis, but for a DD that goes though 3-4 warmup cycles a day and
runs for a couple miles between them like my DD, I would be lucky
to like what the oil looks like after 3K or so. I usually change it out
by 1500 give or take, unless I have a long trip in there which does not
really count.
The worse thing you can do to an engine is start it, and the second
worse thing is to shut it off.
