    '70 401 Jeepster

I'm building a '70 jeepster and want to 401 it. 401 is too long for the engine compartment. My problem is that I don't want to butcher the grill. Any ideas?

Well, probably not what you want to hear, but why not put a Buick 350 in it. Same motor mounts as the Buick V-6. Or, you could go with the aluminum block V-8, what was it a 215ci? Or how about a Buick Grand National turbo V-6, saw someone who did this in a mag, once.

I don't think there is a way to do it, with out butchering your current Commando. If you had a 72 or 73, there would be more room.

Do have a 73 that I'm going to part out, but I like the looks of the 70 better. Will probably go to the CJ front clip and save the Jeepster stuff. The Olds 215 is a great idea, if you can find one. With a little machine work they can be bumped up to 305ci. Like the power the 401 creates and want to stay Jeep.

MC, in 72 and 73, they used the 304, and it was a 104" wheelbase, vice the 71 and before which was a 101" wheelbase, that's why i suggested that.

Thigh, could you move the CJ-style nose to the 73?? I saw recently somewhere, maybe here, someone put a CJ nose on a Jeepster, fenders and all.

The 73 will give you the room for the AMC 401.

    Dunno....

When I went CJ style on my 71, I picked up the Postal grill along with the hood just in case I wanted to use it. It'll look a little different but would give you plenty room for everything and let you keep the original grill in storage. I've seen people add the "ears" to the postal grill and keep the original hood too.

    Just an idea...

OK I've decided to sell the Jeepster. They're pictures on my web sight of it. Basicly what you get is a clean and strait body, powdercoated frame, new springs, all new bushings, power steering, power brakes, new lens, good glass, rare interior options, and lots of extra parts. you don't get any power train or correct running gear( the running gear consist of a 2wd DJ axle with disc brake conversion, and a D20 rear with a powerlock and 4:10 gears). $1200 takes it, a real steal concidering what I've got invested.
