    Making progress on the AMX

I got the engine/trans into the AMX over the weekend. The Hooker super comp headers were difficult and tight to get in. I did have to add to the relief in the flange to clear the head bolts. Luckily, I test fit them while still on the engine stand. They would have been a bitch to fit in the car. Should fire it for the first time in a couple of weeks.

Finally signed up with Photobucket. Here's pics fresh out of the paint shop. I'll take more this weekend. The engine is in, bumpers and a lot of trim is on.

It's a factory 390, automatic, go pak car. I would have like a 4 speed, but this car had a lot of factory options that made it interesting, including A/C (I'm going to try to make it work again), full tinted windows, tilt steering, PS, Power disc brakes, go pak (heavier sway bar, traction bars, posi rear, 140 speedo and tach), remote mirror. It was originally a California car, so there is absolutely NO RUST in the floors or frame. It needed repair to the sill panel between the rear glass and trunk lid, and in the right rear quarter. The price was right at $3500 running and drivable. It was originally Pompeii yellow (with the stripe). I had it painted Bittersweet orange, and the stripe is painted, and under the clear, vs. a tape stripe from the factory.

The 390 has been rebuilt, .030 over 10:1 Ross pistons, balanced, 1970 291C heads with a 1.68 exhaust valve (stock intake), polished, ported, and gasket matched. Crower 284/292 duration .512/.525 lift "street beast" cam. Crane gold roller rockers with .100" longer pushrods. AMC part # R4B intake, Edelbrock aluminum valve covers. Hooker super comp 1 7/8" headers. Haven't made a carb decision yet, but I'm going to try the factory AFB. Desktop dyno estimates about 450 HP.
