I agree with MC. Go either 3.73 or 3.92. I ran 3.54's on a TH400, dana 300, 33BFG's and wish I could have regeared. It wasn't that bad, but kinda sucked off road.

    thanks,
    Jim

    I'm leaning towards the 3.73's

I guess it all depends on the type of driving you do. IF you mostly off road it, I would say go with 4.10's. If you use it for a good mix of both, I would say the 3.92's would be good, and if you only rarely get a chance to get off road, I would say 3.73's. Just remember that if you go too low you will have to get a different carrier as well to house the ring gear. I had 3.54's and it was great on the interstate, but wasn't all that great off road. If I was in your shoes I would go 3.92's.

    Transmission 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Rev
    TF 999 2.74 1.55 1.00 2.20
    TH 400 2.48 1.48 1.00 2.08

    Hope this helps,
    Jack

Well Jack looks like w/the gearing on the spec's U provided the 3.90 would be better due to the fact I would have a 2.75 for (1st) & a 1.55 (2nd).

The D-30 has a 2.72 soI would need a new carrier to go w/a 3.90 if I'm correct.

These are the axles/gears that came w/the CJ8 project jeep.

    Thanks,
    RollBar

P.S> I still have the original 4 speed out of it & a 4 spd out of the 86' CJ7 so if I ever swap back I'll be in good shape.
