NP435

My dad is running a NP435 behind his 304, he has it adapted to the d300 tcase.

He has everything together, took it for a ride, and every gear feels good except 2nd gear. He said it will not fully engange, He took the top cover off, and inspected everything and made sure the shift fork were aligned properly , he said every thing appears to be fine. He put it back together, and still has teh problem.


Doe anyone have a copy of a manual with this tranny? Or an ideas?

If it pops out or just won't engage, I would suspect the teeth inside the syncro (the ring moved by the shift fork) are worn out. You can't see them without disassembling the box.

If it grinds going into gear, then it could be the brass "brake" ring. But if it's been grinding for any time see above.

A proper rebuild would probably include a new 2nd gear, syncro and brake. The gears are case hardened, where the syncros aren't, so if it hasn't had trouble for long, the gear may be salvagable with some close inspection and measurement.
