    727 flex plate

I have a 401 with a th400 trans behind it that I removed from a 75 J20. I am going to take the 401 and bolt up a new 727 I bought and put it into a 1991 Wrangler. I have been to NAPA and they tell me the part number for the flex plate is the same for the 727 as the th400.

So if what they are telling me is right I should be able to use the original flex plat from the th400.

    Is this correct?

I also have a Dana 300 to bolt up to the 727. Am I right in thinking that I won't need an adapter?

    Thanks for and help!

Maybe their replacement is drilled for both, but I believe the TH400 torque converter used 3 bolts, the 727 has 4. I doubt you can use the factory TH400 for the 727.

That would make sense. Any idea on the adapter for the Dana 300?

If the 727 had a Dana 300 behind it, you'll be good. If it had something else, or is a 2WD model, then you will need the correct adapter for the 300. Make sure the spline count on the trans output and 300 input match. I know the NP231 t-cases ond others had a different spline count than the 300, and possibly a different diameter.

If the 727 is from a '80-'91 4x4 Wagoneer then it will bolt to a Dana 300 WITHOUT any mods whatsoever!! Be advised though that you will need a spring lift kit on your CJ to allow the front driveshaft clearance from the 727's pan. Or you can "oakie up" a 2-piece front driveshaft.

Ken is right even a grand wagoneer 727 will bolt to a dana 300. The tranny's in the alter model TJ's will need some cut off the output shaft to work but anything bolted to a new process case in a jeep will bolt to a dana 300

Thanks for the help. Now I have the right flexplate and I even have the two piece drive shaft. Now my next obstacal is the new transmission didn't come with a dip stick. I priced one at the local dealership and the tube and dipstick were $113.

I am going to start looking at junk yards but I want to make sure I get the right one. I now the transmissions are different but as long as it is still a chrysler trans will one work out of a wrangler, or cherokee?
