    another trans adapter question

I found a guy with a automatic transmission mated to a dana 20 transfer case.He tells me its a bop gm trans that jeep used a cast adapter to mate it to a amc v8.He also tell me its vacuum actuated so i wont have to worry about hooking up a kickdown cable to my carb.Does anyone know what trans this is?If it is a good one to get for my amc 360 and where I can get this adapter plate that he does not have? Thanks for any info. This is for my 79 cj7.

It should be an early 70's TH-400.
The adapter is a special piece to mount a late 50's /early 60's Buick nailhead tranny to the back of the AMC engine. It is not the same as the BOP pattern.
It was a factory part and ONLY fits that particular trans.

Some of the adaptors mounted to AMC V8's and some to Buick 350's but all that had adaptros were from the nailhead. You can easily find a AMC th400 core and swap guts. We make a billet adaptor that clocks the dana 20 flat for increased clearance....its called the Rock9. You can also use the stock combo however it is prone to cracks if not torqued correctly. A decent setup for lower ratio axles.

I would buy it and swap the guts to a AMC bellhousing tranny and then you have a nice little combo!

How difficult is swapping the guts?I have replaced a clutch, swapped a couple front wheel drive trannys and 1 rear wheel drive. The most inside trans work I have ever done is changing the fluid and filter, and thanks for all the replies everybody.I am learning alot here.
