    11" Torque converter with 3.15 gears??

    Continental converters in CA has 11" Torque converters for AMC Borg Warner Transmissions. I have a pretty stout combo for my 343 and was wondering if a 11" 2500 stall converter would make the AMX faster?

    Heres the combo:

    68 343 Bored .030 with 70' 51cc dogleg heads. 1/2 head bolts, reed 272/276 torque master cam(491/501 lift 110 lobe sep), harland sharp rollers, titanium retainers, rollmaster timing chain set, 750 competition series AFB Carter, Edelbrock R4B intake/blocked heat risers, hooker headers with full mandrel bent 2.5" exuast to bumper. M12 390 trans with a BIG auxiliary cooler. 3.15 gears.

    My thinking here is rather than go with tearing down the rear end and swapping low gears in the 11" 2500 stall would help the car accelerate quicker than with the stock converter and still keep the stock rear gears?? they are either 2.87's or 3.15's.

    It will be a LOT easier to just slip on a converter and change gears in the future if I decide. Any input on this is great!

    Probably not a good idea to put in a high stall converter with those gears. Reason being that with a 2500 stall, if the engine is below 2500 RPM the converter is slipping, creating heat (very bad for an auto) and reducing gas mileage. With a 3.15 gear, you'll spend a lot of time below 2500.

    I have a 2500 stall in my 390 AMX, but I have 3.73 gears. It's a great street combo, comes off the line hard. Not so good for highway driving though, I'm spinning right at 3000 RPM at 60 MPH.

    converter

    Yeah the engine rpm and converter slippage relationship is what I was worried about all along, so rather than overheat the M12 I think I'll just leave it stock and see how the new engine works with the stock driveline. It is the 390 M12, I ditched the stock M11 as it wasnt as stout as the M12 and only lasted 2 years of hard driving. The M12 has shifted the same for the past 4 years it seems much stronger than the M11. I guess it's conveter stalls around 1600 RPM maybe even less. 3.73's are the gears I have in mind when I do get around to beefing up the axle, so that will be the next mod after the engine. Thanks for the input.
