    More 304 problems

This is for my dads motor again.

Specs, Rebuild Block, Rebuilt Heads, summit cam, edelbrock performer, and edelbrock 650 cfm Off-Road AVS carb,

He had the motor running, everything was running well then his holley electric fuel pump died. Ended up he had it mounted on the firewall and according to the holley specs it should be mounted as close as possible to the tank and lower than the lowest point of the tank. We did not have a good location for this, so he decided to just put a mechanical fuel pump back in. After this it started to become hard to start. He had it out one day and about 25 yards from his house it just shut off on him, the oil pump siezed up, The idler gear fused to the bulltear midplate and wont come off (pics to come this evening), This ate teh cam gear, distributor gear, and broke the rotor in the cap in half.

He got a new cover, new gears, new oil filter adapter, from BT, put everything back together set everything back up and now he has a lag at low RPM and if he gets on the gas sometimes it will back fire back through the carb. HE sent teh HEI distributor back to have it inspected, make sure nothing was bent or damaged, they replace the module in it and said everything else was fine. He is still having the problem, timing is in spec, he attempted readjusting the carb a few times.

Does anyone have any input on where else to look? or any tips. I thought possibly a pushrod could have bent when everything stop turning

    I would think a 650 a little to big for a 304 more like a 500 to 600 carb

    best ever 11.669 @ 112.33 mph in 1/4 mile on 33 x 10.50 slicks and 4" lift / 7.358 @ 93.03 mph in the 1/8 mile
