    727 to AMC 290

I am (hopefully) getting a '69 Rebel with a 290 and a dead BW auto. The previous owner took the trans out, 'disresembled' it, and lost some of the parts. I have a couple of core 727's laying around, and can rebuild one easily enough. Here's my question: will the 727 torque converter work with the 290 flexplate and pre '72 crankshaft?

Not without some work. The hole in the back of the crank is too small for the converter to fit. The BW flexplate also has a different bolt pattern for the converter.

Either the crank has to be removed and machined for the 727, or an adapter ring needs to be machined and pressed on. With the adapter ring, a 1/4" spacer also goes between the engine and trans.

I think plans for the adapter have been posted at www.amcforums.com
