    th400 to np205??

I have a 78 J10 that has a th400 and the QT case. I would like to go to the stronger 205 transfer case. What year of truck should I look for the 205 in (can I use a Chevy 205?) Will I need some sort of adapter to make this swap work?

Plan on pulling at the fairs part-time and don't think the QT will hold up long with the 401 I built.

I also have 2 other cases 1 out of a waggy with a 6 and one QT out of a Waggy that had a 401 in it(that one has the low range, but the chain needs replaced) if anybody is interested in buying them or swap???
If this new part can't break....what old part will??

I just bought a 73 3/4 ton 4x4 chevy suburban with an NP205 case and D44/14 bolt axles that I am swapping under my 78 Wagoneer

all you need to get a chevy NP205 to mount to your existing TH400 tranny is a GM TH400 4x4 main shaft.......and the GM Th400 to NP205 t-case adpater.

bad news is you have to dissasemble the tranny to get to the main shaft so you can swap in the Chevy shaft.

But, I look at it as a good reason to go ahead and modify my AMC bolt-TH400
