my dad just picked up a superwinch EPI9000 from OK4wd for $539 with free shipping. It is a great deal and they make a very good product

here is a direct link to superwinch's site about that winch

    http://www.superwinch.com/pages/epi/epi9.html

this warn is a little slower, and about $300 more just for a comparison

Both warn and superwinch make a very good product. My dad just noticed that the superwinch was a great price, with free shipping and for the specs he decided to go with it. I will see what is on the market in about a year when i am finally ready to put a winch on my CJ

I have never heard anything bad about either makers, and with wheeling in New England most days out on the trail you may see a winch cable only pulled 1 or 2 times so speed is not really an issue as much. If you are pulling a cable mulitple times a day and really want/need a good line speed spend your money on the warn 8274 I believe it is the fastest good quality winch on the market

Not to revive an old post, but in my experience, a slower winch is much more valuable on the trail and in the rocks. It offers better control plain and simple. My 8274 is way to fast for my likeing.

Honestly, the only good thing about a faster winch is the time it takes to respool. really not much of a trade-off for better control dureing a pull.

where i wheel a fast winch can be important most of my wheeling is done while hunting and getting out quick gives me more time to hunt and saves the batteries a little better
