Yes there is a lot of good information here.
Recommend getting a copy of "Performance American Style" book.
Pay close attention to a few Oiling system issues.
Get the Distributor advance curve right.
Holley Double pumper sizing is determined by Minimum RPM at Wide Open Throttle.
Cam to work with Compression ratio and rpm range.
Pistons which give 0.000 deck clearance.
Mild porting of the stock Dogleg exhaust port heads.
Good Valve sprngs and full roller rockers.

My car is a '69 AMX street car, 343 block made into a 360
by using the 304/360 crank, cast pistons about 10.0:1,
Torker Intake, Holley 850 Double Pumper, MSD, Headers,
2.5 full exhaust, TF727 Auto, 3000 stall, 3.73 AMC Posi,
26x8.5 Slicks, pump premium with a little race gas,
Pulls the driver side front tire off the ground a lttle bit at launch,
12.60 sec @ 109 mph, about 325 HP at tire, maybe 400 or so at motor.

My opinion is to first determine what MPH you're after in the 1/4 mile,
and then select components and build to achive that end.

Welcome, a lot of good info here, but slanted to Jeeps and Off Road
and those guys are after low end torque and rock solid reliabilty
    which are both good things.

    anyway, welcome.

thanx for the replies its definately an amc i actualy removed it years ago from a 1972 ambassador.what sort of horse power can you get out of the 360.to start with i only want to spend about £2000 on the engine.realy liking the idea of that 401 alloy block as a longer term build.back to my 360 can i get 500hp out of it without too much work.glad i found this site whenever i tell people what engine is going into my racer they tend to ask whats that.also what companies are best to get parts from.cant get them anywhere in the uk.

    Welcome Barney,

Glad to see you on the sight, I'm another on of the guys that hangs out on the sight dreaming I could do a 401 conversion on my 99 TJ. though I like the 4.0 I would be the only guy in the my Jeep club with a 401
Hope to see/hear of the progress on you ride.. Got any pic's ?
Be sure to check out the E-store here on the sight as you will be able to find alot of parts desigined for you engine.

am I wrong in thinking 2000 pounds, is about 3500 american$$$. (sorry we do not have the button for the pound icon)

I'd say 500 HP would be pretty tough.
HP is a product of Torque and RPM.
High RPM's with an AMC get's tough due to the Oiling system.
It can be done in my opinion, but the budget increases significantly.
Although in my dreams I am wishing for the same thing out of my 343/360
which is out of the car on the engine stand
and has been that way for entirely too long of a time.

ta ive red about the oiling side of things on old posts.in your opinion what would you budget for for getting 500hp out of this 360.i realy want to keep with amc to get away from the norm(chevy or ford).i dont know of anybody using an amc engine on the strip over here.plus ive had this engine for years and its never let me down doesnt even use any oil.
if its too costly or near impossible to get that from the 360 then i will have to pester the guy i know with the 401 until he gets that fed up with me he gives in.
if anybody has got 500hp from a 360 please let me know and give me a run down of what you had to do..

theres some great reading on here which is getting very addictive.
one more thing has anybody ever twin turbo;d or supercharged an amc engine .
    cheers guys.
