What kind of power will I be putting out? AMC 360 1988

    I'm putting a 1988 AMC 360 into a 1981 CJ-5

Stock motor with all emissions removed, ac compressor removed.

    Final setup will be:

    Edelbrock Performer 750 carb
    Edelbrock Performer intake
stock exhaust manifolds with full dual exhaust and flowmaster 40 series

What kind of power will this thing be putting out? The motor runs great, was just pulled from the 1988 Grand Wagoneer with low mileage.

Well I would venture to guess mid to low 200's with a stock camshaft.

Not sure, (AMC newbie) but the carb sounds like it,s a bit big if AMC 360s like the same things as Mopar 360s in stock form....not talkin about the 5.9 series but early 360s.

Then I'd jet it down and play with stepup springs and rods.

It will take a bit of tuning to get that 750 to run on an otherwise stock 360 but you won't have to worry about running out of carburetor at high RPMs.

Once you get it dialed in, you should be able to pull off low to mid 200's for horsepower. I'd imagine you can get 300-350 lb-ft of torque at peak.

    I'm runnin' a Holley list #4781 850cfm Double Pumper on my 360.
When it's runnin' it pulls the driver side tire just a little at launch.
    I tried a 650, 750, and a 800 first before buyin' the 850.
The car didn't "come alive" when stomped until I got to the 800.
I did have to put a 50cc pump on the primary side of the 850.

The Holley sizing chart for Double Pumpers is different than the one for Vacuum Carbs.
Vacuun carb sizing goes by Cubic Inches and volumetric efficiency,
DP's sizing goes by Cubic Inches and Minimum RPM at WOT.

How does NASCAR limit HP, acceleration, and speed at big tracks ?
They choke off the intake with restrictor plates.

My 360 chassis dyno'd with 285 HP at the tire with a TF727.
That's about 360 HP or so HP at the motor and went along with 1/4 mile speeds.
After swapping on milled and ported heads it was 400+ HP
at the motor based on the change in 1/4 mile ET and Speed.

    Scribble88,
I'm doing a low mile `89 360 in to my `81 CJ5. I'm using the stock T-176 and 4.10 gears, fenderwell headers and Flowmaster 50's for now.
I think I'm going to go with either a 268 or 270 comp cam, still undecided.
I've been told a cam change really makes a big difference! Maybe you could consider it and gain another 40 hp and torque.
Let us know how it runs....I would like to know!!
    `81 CJ5,304,T-176.
