    flexplate

Hi there, great site. I have a 84 CJ7 with a TF999 and a 258. I just bought a 1980 CJ5 with a 304 and swapped it into my 7. I used the flexplate from my 6 and bolted it up to the 304 and found quite a vibration at anything over 10 mph. I was searching thru old posts and it seems the 258 flexplates are not to be used with the 304,s. Something about the the 258 being neutral balanced and the 304 flexplate being balanced for the V8. Am I right on this?

yes the amc V8's were all externally balanced and had balanced flywheels and flexplates that were specific to each engine group you need to find one from a 304. You might be able to get by with one from a 360 I've heard that they are very close in the way they were balanced and most people don't have trouble if they keep the RPM's down.
