    360 belts

I've never seen this before...there are 2 belts that drive the altenator. Why is that?
The motor is out of a '85 wagoneer - 360

    thanks

I believe usually when there was an A/C compressor there were 2 belts, on the compressor, and ALT.

If the vehicle was equipped with A/C, it needed 2 belts to run the compressor (the older single belts were prone to squeal). I guess it was easiest on the production lines to just leave the double belt in place even on non-A/C vehicles.

I actually like the 3 belt setup, since it would take the loss of all 3 belts before the water pump stops. Great redundancy on a trail vehicle.
