I have seen a 999 behind a 304 in a CJ7 before. I do not think their was any changes in the planetaries from the 999 behind a six either. I have been told that 999's and 904's are very popular in the Chevy community because the bellhousings are stout and they are using them for drag racing. We have a guy here in MN who makes 960hp with 310CID (chevy) and he likes to use the AMC 904 housings.

Since you know I mess with Mopars for a living I have much experience with them and have been putting them exclusively behind stout small blocks and dumping the 727s since before the racers caught on. I would really like to get my hand on one with an amc bellhousing bolt pattern.....wanna play

Why are you dumping the TF727 in lieu of the weaker 904?

Doesn't the 904 have a smaller input shaft compared to the TF727?

Most likely he is looking for the most HP to the rear wheels...the 904 use alot less HP than the 727. The powerglide use the least I believe...if you like 2 speeds.
If this new part can't break....what old part will??
