    Oil pressures

I was just wondering about my oil pressure. When cold at idle its bout 30 lbs but when full temp its down to 10psi at 600 rpms. Its a completly refurbished motor. Not a single part was left untouched in this 304. 8 quart Milodon oil pan too. I bought a pump housing and adapter plate all nickel coated from Bulltear. Im running 10W40 Valvoline with a mobil 1 filter. It just seems kinda low to me? Also what do y'all think of me running 15w40 Rotella T in this motor during the summer months? Planning on doing a remote filter setup and a oil cooler later on but what you guys opinions?

as for the oil pressure are going by the gage in the jeep or are you using a remote gage. sometimes if the oil pressure gage is electric you might get a low reading. i use rotella-t in my 78
chevy suburban(hardin marine 454) and my 88 lincoln MKVIILSC
(302). i use it year round. use a mechanical oil pressure
gage to verify correct oil pressure. let us know what you get
at cold idle and at operating temp.

sadly enough that is about what all my stock AMC motors run when the oil is up to temp.. (I actually run about 12-15 psi)
going down the road at about 2500 rpm it is 40 psi.. this is on 3 different AMC's 304 and two 360's. but it doesnt seem to hurt them any.. I rebuilt two of them at about 120,000 miles, and there was no more wear than normal.

So it is nerve racking till you get used to it. but it does seem normal for these.

Ok....i just wanted to be sure on this......this is the first AMC i have built and i dont want it to be the last either. I kinda just thunk of that old rule of thumb......10 psi for every 1,000 RPMS.

I think you should have more PSI than that. Try tkaing the plunger and spring out and cleaning them and then re-install them and try again. On a rebuild you should generally have about 35-45psi hot but alot of that depends on the crankshaft grinder!

i thought that might be way low oil pressure. i thought most engines should run 30+ psi hot at freeway speeds.i like to use
hi flow oil pumps to make sure oil get everywhere in the engine.

Just as a safety note THE PLUNGER IS UNDER PRESSURE!!!! It took me 20 minutes to find my plunger after doing this - it bounced around the shop 2-3 times and wound up under the workbench behind some ammo cans!!!!!
