    amc 390 identification?

I am embarrased to admit it but I am having trouble with identifying the exact specs for this 390 block.

#3190808- book says "232/390 64-71" ...doesn't mention head bolt size 7/16" or 1/2" or deck height. I'm not sure whether it is the early or late block. Obviously it is the 390 I'm asking about, not the 232 that also apparently shares the casting number

These are the other 390 numbers:

    #3190806 is 68-69 390 7/16" head bolt 9.175 block
    #3195529 is 69-70 390 1/2"head bolt 9.208 block
    #3195528 is 70-80 390/401 1/2" head bolt 9.208 block

    Thanks,
    George

If it has the 390 cast in the side then the quick way would be to check head bolt size, unless some one drilled it for ¬?‚Δω bolts!
    Sorry can't help more.

As fuzz says, quickest way is to check for CID number on side and the head bolt diameter - can check deck height too but more difficult.

My 69 390 has casting number 3190806, 7/16 head bolts, short deck.

The last # may just look like an "8" because of a poor casting. My bet is that it's a 3190806, 68/69 390.

....well it's definitely #3190808. No mistake there. And it certainly has 390 cast in the block. 3190808 IS definitely a 390 block number...but the tech info I have located doesn't say whether it is a early or late block. Unfortunately the block is some 50 miles from the house so I was hoping to know for sure whether it is an "short" or "tall" deck block before I blow an afternoon and 50 bucks worth of gas to check it out in person.
