    401 won't start

    401 ENGINE 1984 JEEP J-20 727 208 NEW OPTIMA RED TOP
    BATTERY


    I HAD A MSD SETUP DIED ON THE ROAD IN DECEMBER,PURCHASED NEW DAVIS UNIFIED IGNITION HEI BUILT TO THE SPECS OF THE 401 ENGINE,STILL WON'T START
    DISTRIBUTOR SET AT TOP DEAD CENTER,GOT SPARK,GOT FUEL
    NEW PLUGS,NEW WIRES,WON'T START!
    MAYBE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DISTRIBUTOR.
    ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT IS WRONG REALLY FRUSTRATED.

    take it to a shop and have the dizzy tested. also check the wiring of the coil

    Mark, A couple simple chec ks could really help clarify things.

    Pull one of the wires and put a spark plug in it. crank it.. if ya got spark ou will see it.

    If there is spark.. And I know this sounds dumb.. make sure it's got gas, It sat for awhile right? just check.

    If ya got both.. then the dizzy is in wrong.

    Get a remote starter switch and slowly advance the distributor off TDC while cranking (ign on) until it catches - then set timing with a light.
