    260 degrees in oil

Hey, My oil temp guage is showing that my oil temp is at 260 degrees. Now my oil temp sending unit might be right at the top of the oil line, so this might account for the oil being so warm, but can anyone tell me what my normal oil operating temperature should be.

    Thanks,
    Chip

    my motor and specs

BTW, I have a 360, balance and blue printed, 30 over, with stock compression. Also I'm running headers coated with Jet-Hot, dual electic fans, and my water temp runs normally at 190. Only once have I seen it hit 235 and that was in stop and go traffic.

Well first question, what is the water temp at these oil temps??

If you are running 180 to 200 degrees water temp 220 to 240 oil temp (working under a load..not idling in the driveway) would'nt be that far out of range I wou;ldn't think..

260 isn't bad. It needs to get above the boiling point of water to evaporate any condensation that may build up in the internals of the engine. Most modern engine oils are good into the low 300s before any breakdown occurs.
