you guys are way lucky you didn't get caught up in that mess.
hopefully nobody died and the engineers that designed it get
    in big trouble.
That bridge is almost 50 years old according to the reports. The engineers that designed it are probably long dead.

Fuzz thats funny you mention the trusses and bearings a report in 1990 showed severe corrosion on the bearings but those were corrected and the bridge was being annually inspected.

I wonder if its due to the roadwork they were doing on the bridge? Maybe someone playing with a jackhammer hit the right spot or something?

they found 1 bridge with the same design out here. its
crossing the san gabriel river in asuza canyon on hwy-39.
so far there has been no failures even with the earthquakes we
have here. this road is lightly traveled.

Yeah and I seen on the news last night that the state chose a company to build the new bridge. The company that is going to be building the bridge gave the most expensive estimate and the longest time frame to build it.

Almost seems like they went with the highest bidder so they can avoid the "cheaping out" criticism. Which is total BS, any of the builders are going to give you a quality product. It comes down to politics, plain and simple.
