    Front Spindle Nuts

OK, I got one of those big ole sockets & re-torqued Peaches ('86 CJ7) front hubs cause when I replaced the bearings months ago I didn't have one. So I torqued the inner nut to 50lbs & backed it of a 1/8 turn then installed the outer nut & did the same thing & bent over the washer.

    Is this right?

I checked the book & or Moses L's book & did it the way he said but someone told me that the procedure was wrong. I should have hand tightened the inner nut & torqued the outer nut to 50lbs.

    Thanks,

The procedure I always used was to torque the inner nut to 50 LB/FT while rotating the rotor, then back it off 1 flat of the nut and re-snug by hand if possible. Pretty much like yours.

The outer should be torqued but not backed off, it works as a jam nut on the inner.

OK thanks Bob, I did turn the rotor so I guess I'm alright. My son REMINDS me that we did not back off the outer nut so everything should be ok.

Her tires were starting to cup so that's why I check it & they were loose.

    Thanks again,
    Jim
