    8= 1975
    04= April
    n= 360 cubic inch
    18= 18th day of the month

    Your 360 was built on April 18, 1975. The 3135528 is just the part nmber for the block.

    1st digit is year (1=1968, 2=1969, 3-1970, etc)
    2nd & 3rd digit is month (01=Jan)
    4th digit matches 7th digit of VIN
    5th and 6th digit are the day

    804N18

    8 = 1975
    04 = April
    N = 2BBL 360
    18 = 18th day

    So you have a 2BBL 360 built on April 18, 1975, according to the valve cover. Trouble is that so many got swapped because of leaks.

    There may also be the last digit or 2 digits of the year cast into the lifter galley, and on the heads on the end opposite the casting number.

    502 heads are 74 and newer bridged rocker, standard for a 360 or 401. In the same position as the casting number, on the opposite end of the head, there may be the number 5 or 75 cast in. It could also be inside the block, down near the lifters. They didn't do it on all heads and blocks.

    The good thing is that the 360 is pretty much the same from 74-up, so year it was built isn't really a factor in the rebuild.
