    304/727

    Noob here from Pa.I have a 78 CJ-7 with a 304 and a th400.What do I need to swap in a 727 out of a 1980 J-10.
    Already have some parts,need to know what flexplate,things to watch out for, etc...

    You will need a 304 balanced flex plate for a 727. I believe they're available at auto parts stores.

    There will be a thin metal ring in the back of the crankshaft you'll need to remove. The snout of the 727 converter is slightly larger than the 400, and the crank is already machined for it.

    Crossmember positions may be different, as well as driveshaft lengths (depending on what t-cases you're swapping from/to). Linkages are different, and may take some fab work.

    The 727 MUST have the kickdown linkage in place and adjusted properly, or it will burn up the clutches in short order.

    That's what I needed to now.Thanks much!!Planning on doing the swap this weekend i'll keep ya updated.
