    360 and vacuum advance???

So I have an AMC 360 with a Edelbrock non-EGR manifold and Holley 4160 carb(80457S). It would always hesitate when stepping on it to WOT. I took it to a friend's garage and one of his older mechanics looked at it some and disconnected the vacuum line from the distributor and it runs better now? The mixture was a little off he said and the timing a hair off. He adjusted everything and plugged the vacuum line coming from the "timed vacuum port". So now I am running with nothing on the distributor vacuum port....Is that ok?
    Anyone have any insight here?

That was interesting reading - to quote "For peak engine performance, driveability, idle cooling and efficiency in a street-driven car, you need vacuum advance, connected to full manifold vacuum. Absolutely. Positively. Don't ask Summit or Jeg's about it – they don’t understand it, they're on commission, and they want to sell "race car" parts."

So I had the distributor hooked up directly to ported vacuum on the carb, and now I should hook it to manifold vacuum?

That's a good article, it really explains why manifold vacuum is the way to go.

If hesitating when stepping on it, I usually go for adjusting the accelerator pump and shooter size. I have not ran any vacuum advance for years, but intend to try hooking one back up after reading that informative write up.
