    What is the rod width difference between a amc 401 and a 360 also what is a SBC rod width?

    I assume you are talking about the big end widths.

    401 - .920" nominal
    360 - .990" nominal
    SBC - .940" nominal

    so to use chevy rods in an amc you need to mill em down to fit the 401 and build em up to fit the 360? Why does the 401 use narrower rods than the 360?

    A good thing with the 401 cranks is to widen the rod journals a little and narrow the rods a little. That way a good crank machinist can grid some generous radii into the crank. 401 vs 360 rod widths??? . . . I dunno.
