    Why didn't it run better?

Got engine back together this weekend and took it to the track. I changed the cam from .600 lift flat tappit to .672 sollid roller loosend converter and installed tranz-brake. It ran the same as it did last July. Same ET same 60 foot times same mph. I even ran it not using tranz-brake and still the same. Just as consistant, four 6.84's and a 6.83. Why didn't it run any faster?

Perhaps it (The Engine) has already reached it's maximum potential with that mechanical set-up. How are your flow numbers with that amount of lift? What are the cam specs? etc etc etc.
A little more background with this motor and vehicle would be nice, just for a general understanding.

Engine is a 401+.030 venollia domed pistons, heads are 502's that I don't have flow numbers on, but have been port matched valves unshrouded, 2.05 1.68 comp roller 6.72 and 308-310 adv. on a 106 that I degreed at 104 2 degrees adv. 850cfm carb on a torker. Car weighs 2800 with driver, ladder bar with dana 60 with 4.57's 14x32's, 727auto. Car ran same with or without tranbrake that makes me think that the converter is not loose enough. I will try to get with the guy that did the heads and see if he has flow numbers. The last time I talked to hem he said that the heads were getting close to the limit of what he could do without bigger valves etc. I jusr don't understand why it didn't pick up at least 2 tenths.
