Need some advice on headers

I would like to know if there is any truth in the thought that a header plate will seat better and keep that seal longer, meaning that the exhaust gasket will last longer if one is to split the header flange into 3 separate units. This would leave the front and rear flange held by two bolts and the center two pipes held by two bolts. I guess that the theory is that it takes the stress out of the flange.

Have any of you any thoughts on this matter?

I have never had luck w/the plate effect. I like where you can bolt it right there for a better seal. But I was in a lot of water so that might do something as well.

Remflex gaskets. Expensive but worth the money. I tried cutting the bars out on a set of headers and found that it allowed more flex of the tubes, and the center 2 tubes eventually cracked about 2" out from the flange. Never had it happen on headers with the flange left in one piece.

If memory serves the ones I used we Headman headers and some say they have the thin bridge/plate and warp.

I'm running the 1001 on my AMX. Put them on the AMX, retorqued after a couple of hours running, and haven't touched them in 5 years.

I have the hedman headers and the gaskets that came with em lasted 1 year and started leaking, tried the copper gaskets and Im pretty sure they are meant for use with the stock manifolds cause they leaked something bad and would not seal up. I think I have the carbon gaskets in there now and havent had a problem in 3 years. 1 piece header flange. The only thing I can see separating them would do is to take out the movement from the flanges expanding laterally. Might help if your flanges are thick enough but I would imagine you would lose a lot of stability with thin flanges.
